'Star Wars: Rebels' POP Figures Are Coming! Sneak Peek!

The Funko Pop series of epic vinyl figures has covered just about every major character from all seven Star Wars films, with new collectibles already announced for this December’s upcoming anthology prequel, Rogue One (see them here). But Star Wars isn’t just movies these days, and Jedi fanatics have been wondering just when Funko would get around to making figures based on the ragtag crew of the rebel ship The Ghost.

Funko announced (official announcement here) that they’re releasing the first full series of figures from Disney XD’s Star Wars: Rebels animated series. Now you’ll be able to proudly prop up Kanan Jarrus, Ezra Bridger, Zeb, Hera Syndulla, Chopper, Sabine, and Ahsoka Tano (some available now here) right up next to Luke, Leia, Han, and the rest. 

New Clips And Images From Rebels Season 3

There's a lot of fan excitement going into Season 3 about the introduction of Grand Admiral Thrawn, the beloved Expanded Universe/Legends character who will finally be making his debut into official Star Wars canon via Rebels. Above you'll see a new images of Thrawn alongside his fellow Imperials (Grand Moff Tarkin included). Few new pics below:

When the Disney XD animated series returns on tomorrow night at 8:30 p.m. ET/PT, it heralds the return of the villain who first picked up the pieces of the shattered galactic Empire and served as antagonist in the ongoing stories of Luke Skywalker, Leia Organa, and Han Solo. Thrawn was the central foe in author Timothy Zahn’s trilogy of Star Wars novels in the early 1990s, which became a new hope of sorts for fans who suddenly found the story didn’t end with Return of the Jedi.

“It was a huge deal. You couldn’t believe it,” says Rebels executive producer Dave Filoni, who was just a kid when the first book in the Thrawn trilogy came out in 1991. “I would go the bookstore and you’d see all the Star Trek books, tons of Star Trek books, and nothing Star Wars. Then all of a sudden this standee appeared! We waited for that book and we devoured it because we were so hungry for the continuation of the saga.”

A Guide To Better Understanding The New Star Wars Canon

With the new canon replacing the old expanded universe, and all the new comics, novels, television series, and of course the movies themselves....it can get a bit tricky on figuring out into what order everything falls.

Fear not friends! The good folks over at Overmental have figured it out so you won't have to, plus they periodically update the listing as more material is introduced. I must admit, I'm a bit surprised that Plaguieus is not included in this list...but that might be due to Disney saying that the movies and Clone Wars were the core of the new canon, so they may not have included Plaguieus for this reason.

Anywho.....Ladies & gentlemen, I give you:

With this guide you'll have a better understanding as to where everything falls into place, which in turn will alleviate a lot of confusion between certain events in the Star Wars universe and how they impacted future events, as well as helping you understand references made to people, places, or events earlier in the timeline.

Alright everyone, Buckle up. Here we go!

1. Star Wars Ep. I - The Phantom Menace

Set 32 years before A New Hope, this is the earliest point of the new canon. (SWTOR is not canon, therefor it does not apply)

2. Star Wars Ep. II - Attack of the Clones

Set 10 years after the events of The Phantom Menace, this gives us the first glimpse of what will soon evolve into the Galactic Empire.

3. Star Wars: The Clone Wars (Movie & Series)

These events take place between Attack of the Clones & Ep. III - Revenge of the Sith and help fill in plot holes and elaborate on characterizations from the prequels....Plus we get Rex & Ahsoka!

WARNING: The Clone Wars has it's own chronological order, as the movie and episodes from seasons 1 through 3 were shown out of sequence. Click HERE for the correct order in which to watch.

4. Star Wars: Darth Maul - Son of Dathomir

With the source material being unused Clone Wars scripts, this comic book series follows the infamous Sith lord and his dealings that take place after the end of TCW.

5. Star War: Dark Disciple 

This novel was released on July 7, 2014 and is also based on unused scripts from TCW. The book centers on the partnership between Asajj Ventress and Jedi Knight Quinlan Vos in their efforts to take down Count Dooku.

6. Star Wars Ep. III - Revenge of the Sith

Here we witness the betrayal to-and fall of the Jedi Order, the end of the Clone Wars, the fall of Anakin Skywalker, and the Rise of Darth Vader.

(Side Note: The James Luceno novel titled Dark Lord: The Rise of Darth Vader is not considered as part of the new canon and therefor not included in this list)

7. Star Wars: Kanan - The Last Padawan

This Comic book series centers around a young Kanan Jarrus, beginning with the story of his survival of Order 66.

8. Star Wars: Lords of the Sith

This novel is a singular story of when the Emperor and Darth Vader were stranded on Ryloth.

9. Star Wars: Tarkin

Written as a Character study of Tarkin, it also tells of how he was bestowed with the title of Grand Moff.

10. Star Wars: A New Dawn

In this novel, we catch up with a post-Order 66 adult Kanan Jarrus meeting Hera for the first time.

11. (OPTIONAL) Star Wars: Story Before The Force Awakens

This one is optional, simply because it's a web comic series written entirely in Korean, which centers around a young Luke's time on Tatooine. Check it out HERE.

12. Servants of the Empire: Edge of the Galaxy

This book is about Zare Leionis and how he came to enroll in the Imperial Academy. Zare was a recurring character in Season 1 of Star Wars Rebels. It is unknown if, however very likely that he will appear in future seasons.

13. Star Wars Rebels

An animated series set 14 years after Ep.III. This series introduces us to the now established crew of the Ghost, led by Kanan Jarrus. What starts off as a life of smuggling evolves into something greater. Season 1 finished strong with a highly anticipated season 2 on the way.

14. Rogue One

Currently in production. Rogue One is a movie set to release in 2016 detailing the events that lead to the theft of the Death Star plans.

15. Star Wars Episode IV - A New Hope

The one that started it all. With the help of Obi Wan, Luke, Leia, Han & Chewie begin an epic adventure to fulfill a mission to deliver the newly acquired Death Star plans to the Rebel Alliance. Along the way, Luke learns of his destiny.

16. Heir to the Jedi

Taking place between Ep. IV and V, this book follows Luke as he discovers more about his abilities while on a mission to rescue a captured cryptographer.

17. The Weapon of a Jedi: A Luke Skywalker Adventure

Set to release September 4, 2015. This book tells the story of Luke's very first lightsaber duel.

18. The comic book series Star Wars, Star Wars: Princess Leia, and Star Wars: Darth Vader

All three titles pick up after the destruction of the Death Star in Ep. IV.

Star Wars 

Tales of adventures and the developing friendships of Luke, Leia, Han & Chewie while battling the Empire.

SW: Princess Leia 

We find the Princess coming to terms with the destruction of Alderaan and her mission to seek out any scattered survivors that were off-world when the planet was destroyed.

SW: Darth Vader

This series begins with Darth Vader dealing with the fallout from the destruction of the Death Star. This series runs concurrent to Star Wars, with events and stories sometimes overlapping.

19. Star Wars Ep.V - The Empire Strikes Back

Here we see the Rebels on the run with the Empire in hot pursuit. Luke begins his Jedi training, and learns more about his destiny.

20. Moving Target: A Princess Leia Adventure

A novel about the Princess leading a team of Rebels on a mission against the Empire, set to release on September 4, 2015

21. Star Wars Ep. VI - Return of the Jedi

The final showdown between Luke, Darth Vader and the Emperor, marking the end of the original trilogy.

The next group of titles are part of the Journey to Star Wars: The Force Awakens series, which bridge the gap between Episodes VI and the upcoming VII.

22. Lost Stars 

Taking place after ROTJ, it tells a story of two childhood friends on opposing sides of the conflict, and how it affects their duties and friendship. The book comes out September 4, 2015.

23. Star Wars: Aftermath 

Also taking place after ROTJ, this book centers around the still ensuing battles between Rebels and a fractured Empire. As the Rebels uncover evidence of an upcoming secret Imperial meeting, some worlds celebrate their new found freedom as others remain under Imperial control. The book is set to release on September 4, 2015.

24. Star Wars: Shattered Empire 

A 4-part comic book mini series that tells the continuing story of our heroes after the Battle of Endor and the Destruction of the 2nd Death Star.

25. Star Wars: Journey to the Force Awakens - C3P0

Not much is known about this comic series as of yet other than the release date being prior to, or on December 18, 2015.

....and finally

26. Star Wars Ep. VII - The Force Awakens

Set 30 years after ROTJ, we find a battle still raging between the Rebel Alliance (Now called The Resistance) and The First Order (formerly the Galactic Empire). Heroes new and old join forces as a new threat looms over the horizon.

Our Favorite Smuggler, I Mean, "Galactic Entrepreneur" is Not Done Yet

He first showed up with his swagger in 1980 and from the looks of it, Lando's not done yet!

After appearing in spoofs of the movies on Robot Chicken, he most recently showed up in the season 1 episode of Star Wars Rebels titled "Idiot's Array", with a heavy hint that he's going to be featured in future episodes as well.

Living up to his self-title of Galactic Entrepreneur, Lando wants in on the big action. What's big right now? The new trilogy of course!

It looks like we may get to see him work his charm on the ladies & out swindle swindlers on the big screen again. During an interview with Vanity Fair, Lawrence Kasdan (who for those not familiar, wrote the screenplay for Empire Strikes Back, and co-wrote the screenplay for Ep.VII) dropped a tasty breadcrumb our way.

At the end of the interview, Bruce Handy asked "My son wants to know: Are we ever going to see Lando Calrissian again in a Star Wars movie?

Kasdan answered with "Right now, there's no Lando Calrissian in this movie, but I don't think he's finished in any way, shape, or form."

Not exactly a precise answer about his chances to appear in the movies, but it does tell us that Lando is far from being written off.

It is worth noting that during an interview with Cinelinx back in February, Billy Dee Williams did address the issue of his fans disappointment that Lando would not appear in Ep. VII. During that interview, Williams stated " Yeah, people were pretty upset about it. But I uh... I may very well...I have a feeling I'm going to show up. There's nothing I can really discuss about it at this stage."
[From the context of his answer, he was talking about the new trilogy in general, and not just Ep.VII.]

Sarah Michelle Gellar: Rebel or Villain?

Looks like husband and wife will get to spend time together at work as well as at home. Mrs. Freddy Prinze Jr. has joined the cast of Rebels as.....well....we don't know as who just yet.

My theory? She's the Inquisitor's replacement as the antagonist. Yes we saw Darth Vader exit the shuttle at the end, and yes we heard Tarkin tell Agent Kallus about the Emperor providing an "alternate solution". I think that alternate solution is her, not Vader.

Bear with me a sec and consider the following (I'll put it all together at the end):

1. I highly doubt that Emperor Palpatine has just one inquisitor to handle force related affairs. There are likely other Inquisitors spread across the Empire.

2. In the episode before the finale, our heroes found out that Kanan was being held aboard Tarkin's Star Destroyer, which was heading to Mustafar. Hera mentions Kanan telling her "This is where Jedi go to die".

3. Just before plummeting to his death, the Inquisitor tells Kanan "There are some things far more frightening than death".

4. As mentioned in an earlier post here on our blog, how lame would it be if it was the Rebels foiling the evil Darth Vader every week in cookie cutter cartoon fashion? It would be an insult not only to the fans, but to credibility of the the production staff, the actors, and the franchise itself.

Here goes:

While Darth Vader was on Mustafar, it was not him they were meeting. I think the Emperor has a secret detention center on Mustafar reserved for Jedi and other force sensitive beings. Call it the Galactic equivalent of a super secret black-site prison. This is where I believe they were taking Kanan.

Who is running that prison? Darth Vader might be the head honcho, but he's got to have a 2nd in command. It's obvious that the Inquisitor was not that person.

I believe it was (whoever Sarah Michelle Gellar will voice) waiting for them on Mustafar, with Vader there to observe & report back to the Emperor. Why am I intent on believing she is a villain? Well that's simple.....balance.

We've now been introduced to the reality that the Rebels are all part of a much larger organization divided up into cells, and that former Jedi Ahsoka Tano is one of the leaders of this organization.

The good guys are now a bit heavy with the character list, so we need to bolster up the Imperial side. Vader? Check! Tarkin? Check! Now it's time to introduce the 3rd member to complete the trifecta. She'll be the new baddie they square off against, and judging by the Inquisitor's statement, she's gonna make the Rebels wish they were dead.

....at least that's my theory anyway.

What Did The Inquisitor Mean? 'Rebels' Season Finale Questions.

Possible Spoilers*

What did the Inquisitor mean before he fell?  That was kinda too cryptic for his final goodbye... Which leads me to believe he will be back.

What's the biggest question or concern in your mind about Season 2?  I really don't want to see Vader foiled each week in a sophomoric way and take away from his epicness.  But, that's just me.

Darth Vader to Return for "Rebels" Season Finale

Be careful with your lack of faith next month, because I'd hate to hear about some unfortunate choking incident. Lord Vader will be paying us another visit on March 2nd for the season finale of Star Wars Rebels...and this time he's no hologram.

Troopers, please try not to upset him too much. You know he's got that breathing issue, plus he's got a lot on his mind right now.

Minecraft Xbox Edition is Going to a Galaxy Far, Far Away! Well, Sort of...

According to Xbox Wire, Minecraft for Xbox 360 and Xbox One has launched an XBox exclusive Star Wars Rebels skin pack for $2.99 that contains 23 new character skins, including the Rebels themselves, from the animated show.
